Child Fest is the Blue Ridge Partnership for Children’s annual celebration of the young child. The event is held each April at Mitchell High School with activities indoor and out including inflatables, train rides, a musical calliope, and tons of fun activities!
Child Fest brings together our two favorite things— fun activities for the young (and young at heart!) with lots of valuable information about services that are available locally for parents and caregivers of young children.
Child Fest has many art tables and interactive activities where kids create with the help of parents and volunteers. One of the highlights every year is seeing a real magician perform on stage. (right) Mr. Mystery always amazes the crowd with his feats of magic!

A volunteer from Penland School of Crafts leads a group in a make-and-take art project. Child Fest is about having fun and enjoying the day, but it’s also a place where kids learn to share, and interact with each other socially.
Smoky the Bear
One of the most important things about Child Fest is encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle for young children. The inflatable slide and bouncy house are always a hit. It’s the perfect way to be active and burn off excess energy!
Child Fest provides a family-focused atmosphere to do all kinds of things like get your face painted, visit the Teddy Bear Clinic, ride on a calliope, and enjoy games and activities. While kids are busy doing the fun stuff, parents and caregivers have access to information about quality child care, early literacy, health & nutrition and much, much more.
Kids use their imaginations to be creative and explore ideas.
We are very thankful for our generous sponsors, vendors, volunteers and parents who make Child Fest a great event year after year. Child Fest is always FREE to attend.
With hands-on activities, Child Fest provides a perfect opportunity for kids and parents to build things together.
It’s a day of magic, curiosity, laughter and fun!
